Fanwork Details:
Hello! I have a few services/areas of expertise I can offer
to assist your writing/fanworks. See further down for more detail on
each of these! Broadly, these include betaing for any stages of the
process, culture picking (Australia), sensitivity reading for LGBTQ+
characters or experiences, especially asexual/aromantic/aspec
experiences. Additionally, general sensitivity reading for disability
awareness and experiences. Speciality & hobby wise - medical & allied
health knowledge, hospital and outpatient settings, and both expertise
and sensitivity reading for certain medical conditions including
neurodivergence, diabetes, stroke, blindness. Hobbies wise - sewing,
knitting, crocheting.
Betaing: Happy to help with planning, grammar and spelling and cohesion, cheerleading etc. May not necessarily be able to assist with characterization/canon compliance, as it will depend on my knowledge of the fandom.
Culture picking: Australian, so Australian english and slang, sayings and culture. Additionally, both city (Melbourne) and rural/country/farming life and culture.
Expertise: how hospitals work, both emergency and wards, inpatient and outpatient. experience of and treatments for diabetes, stroke (including rehab), blindness, ADHD. Caveat that my experience is with the Australian health system.
Relevant experience/background:
For sensitivity reading - I am a member of the queer
community so can offer feedback in this area, with the caveat that
experiences may vary. Similarly to disability sensitivity reading - I
work in the health and disability sector, and have a masters degree in
Speech Pathology, as well as my own lived experience of disability and
my family's medical shenanigans.
For expertise reading/picking - as above, I have a masters degree in allied health (speech pathology) and have a lot of experience in hospital and clinic settings as both a patient and staff/provider. I have learnt a lot about general medicine through this; additionally, my sister is a doctor (currently working in a hospital) so I may pick her brain for info if I am unsure! I currently work in the health/disability field. General caveat - this is with the Australian health system, so I can assist with medical knowledge, but not so much about the American hospital system, for instance.
I also have a background in linguistics (need help getting your fictional language to work?) including child language acquisition (want to know how a character raised by wolves would behave/talk?). I also have all kinds of crafty hobbies, so if you want to know anything/check the accuracy of anything to do with sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting etc, I can do that too.
Characters/pairings of interest:
No preference. Happy to work with any
fandoms/characters/pairings - I just won't be able to check
characterisation/canon compliance for fandoms I am not well versed
in.
Subjects/theme/tropes of interest:
No preference
Unwilling to address:
Nothing explicit involving underage characters. No fanfic
involving real people (i.e. RPF).
Other notes:
Happy to work collaboratively throughout your process of
creating, or just be a final look over once you've finished writing.
Whatever level of assistance you need!
