Organizations this auction benefits: Bellingcat *, Fight for the Future Education Fund, Freedom to Read Foundation *, Global Project Against Hate and Extremism *, In Our Own Voice *, Never Again Action, News Literacy Project *, Any/all listed LGBT orgs (See full list. * denotes an organization that accepts international donations.)

Type of fanwork: Written fanwork
Subtype(s): fan fiction (remix of an existing fic)
Fandom(s): For All Mankind
Highest rating: E
Minimum Bid: $10
Audience: 18+ only
Length/scope: Less than 5k words
Special interests (what is this?): Ambiguous endings, Gen (no ship) or platonic works, Unhappy endings

Characters/pairings of interest:
NB: this is an offer for a remix of an existing fic, not a brand-new fic! (If you're not sure what a remix is, I explain more below.) I am still filling in these "interests/dislikes" boxes, because they still apply, but if you win this auction, you won't be giving me a traditional prompt -- you'll be giving me an existing fic as a prompt.

I'm really open to anything! I should note, though, that my approach to Margo/Sergei tends toward canon compatible. I am in principle happy to take on canon divergences and AUs, but the stories themselves likely will not be all that happy...

Subjects/theme/tropes of interest:
When I'm remixing a fic, the main thing I'm looking for is a thread I can tug on: one that lets me unravel the existing fic such that I can put it back together in a fresh way. I realize this is not an especially actionable description! But mainly the thing I'm looking for is a story with layers, or that offers a couple of different ways in.

Unwilling to address:
I cannot be trusted to deliver a straightforwardly happy ending. It's just not in my skillset. If you want to give me a happy fic to remix that is cool! But please know that my remix will be a lot more ambivalent and ambiguous in its resolution.

Also: although I am happy to consider any fic as the base text for a remix (given the author's permission), I CANNOT PROMISE IN ADVANCE that I will remix the one exact fic you have in mind. It's really difficult to predict what story is going to offer me a way in, and which ones won't. For that reason, I'm going to ask you to offer me 3-5 stories (or more!) that you'd be interested in seeing remixed.

Other notes:
This offer is not for a new fic; this offer is for a remix of an existing fic. In other words, I take a fic of yours (or someone else's, with their permission) and rewrite it in some way. If you're not familiar with fic remixes, here is a general blurb: https://fanlore.org/wiki/Remix

I've used the second portfolio slot to link to the collection of all of my BBC Sherlock remixes; if you know that canon, looking there might be helpful! But as an overview of what a remix by me might look like: I could (and have done, in the past) retell the same story (or a v similar one) from the perspective of a different character, with different knowledge and different priorities and different people they care about; or tell roughly the same story but change a few key details. I once took a Vampire AU -- which drew heavily on the emotional dynamics of S1 Sherlock, but spun its own narrative -- and retold that same narrative, almost beat for beat, but without any vampires or magic and re-translated such that those same dynamics and movements occurred in our own world. I can't promise in advance what I would do; there are lots of different ways to put a twist on the original story, and figuring out what kind of twist it will be is part of the fun for me.

also, pls see note above about giving me multiple prompt fics. (I couldn't fit it in this box!)

Type of fanwork: Fan labor
Subtype(s): Betaing, Culture picking, Specialist expertise
Fandom(s): For All Mankind
Highest rating: E
Minimum Bid: $10
Audience: All ages
Length/scope: 10 - 20k words
Special interests (what is this?): Ambiguous endings, F/F ships, Gen (no ship) or platonic works, Rarepairs, Unhappy endings

Fanwork Details:
Yankpicking (both language and culture); Russia-picking (both language and culture); Beta reading (anything from developmental beta to SPaG)

Relevant experience/background:
⁃ I can of course do a basic beta read of a completed draft for story structure, canon resonance, &c: I am a very experienced beta reader: I’ve only been involved in the FAM ficsphere since fall of 22, but I have been beta reading for friends for 10+ years across multiple fandoms. BUT ALSO:

⁃ if you want help developing your ideas for given characters or relationships, I am happy to talk them through with you! (Especially if you’re interested in telling a canon-compliant or canon-compatible story, but even if you want to do something else.)

⁃ If you’re non-American and looking for someone to Yankpick your fic, I can do that! (I should note that I’ve only very briefly been to Texas and never to Houston; I am probably better positioned than a non-American to know how to research local-color details about Houston in whatever decade, but I can only offer secondhand knowledge.)

⁃ If you are writing a story set in Russia or with significant Russian plotlines, I can offer some limited expertise here too! My knowledge of the Russian language is pretty stale, but I can do some basic translation for you in either direction. I also lived in Moscow for several months in the late 90s, which means that I have a strange little capsule of first-hand experience in a highly FAM-relevant window of time.

Additional notes about labor offered:
In addition to the above: if you are under 30 and looking to write a story set in S2 or S3: I am very much not under 30 and can draw on my own memories of those periods to help you thicken up the realism of your setting.

Characters/pairings of interest:
I am pretty open here -- I am deeply intrigued by just about everyone on this show.

Subjects/theme/tropes of interest:
I'm like Karen Baldwin: I live in the grey. And I like stories that live in the grey! (I am in fact happy to help you figure out how to entangle your story more deeply in various kinds of ambiguity, but I'm equally happy reading stories that are already there.)

Unwilling to address:
No character hate. Very happy to work on a story in which one character hates another -- and that can be for very good reasons! But if you want to write a story about how someone is just bad, I can't help you with that.

Other notes:
I'd love it if we can have a conversation relatively early in your writing process (though if the story you want help on is already far along that is of course also fine.) I'm happy to go 2 or 3 rounds with you if that would be helpful.

Characters/pairings of interest:
Margo Madison is the #1 all-time character of my heart, and yet this show has so many compelling characters that she is the first among a list of equals. I love writing about Molly, and would be deeply excited to write about Aleida, Karen or Tracy. I would be especially excited for a prompt that gave me an opportunity to write about Gordo, either as a PoV character or as another major character. But really, I am interested in writing about just about any main-cast character from the first three seasons, and could certainly be very easily talked into writing about either Irina Morozova or Samantha Massey with the right prompt.

I also have a deep and abiding love for several of the show's most well-developed tertiary characters: Larry Wilson, Bill Strausser, Deke Slayton (and Marge too! Marge Slayton is so interesting), Wayne Cobb. Jimmy Stevens, even!

Subjects/theme/tropes of interest:
I'm generally better with canon-compliant or canon-compatible stories, though I would also be really delighted by some sort of AU that rewards interpretive reconciliation work (aka crack treated seriously, I guess.)

Unwilling to address:
I will not* write a story that takes the canonical male-female friendships (e.g. Ed and Danielle, Karen and Wayne) and develops them in a romantic or sexual direction.

probably! it's so hard to say never! people's brains and hearts do weird shit sometimes, and I do love stories about people getting caught off guard by that kind of weird shit. So maybe it's better to say that I am *potentially receptive to this kind of prompt, if and only if it comes under the heading of weird internal wire-crossing.

I'm happy to write about a character hating another character, but I will not write a story in which one or more characters are Just Bad Actually.

Other notes:
I'm hoping we can have a conversation about what I'll write for you! For me, fic is deeply interwoven with interpreting canon, and I think it will help me write (and hopefully be more fun) if we can spend some time hashing through relevant sections of canon together.
