Fanwork Details:
American, Great Lakes Midwestern (lower)-middle class life
experience, Pacific Northwest rural life experience, scientific
knowledge (biology, endocrinology, genetics, microbiology, immunology,
infectious disease ecology, virology, entomology, others as special
interests but without formal training), higher-education academic
experience, laboratory research experience
Relevant experience/background:
I'm a midwestern-born American (rural great lakes state) who
has a post-secondary (Master's) degree in molecular biology,
microbiology, and biochemistry and have worked in an academic research
lab for the past 10+ years. I lived in the Pacific Northwest of the
USA for most of those years of experience (recently moved back to the
midwest), so I can talk about/fact check as needed for that region as
well. I love thinking about the sci-fi future of science and medicine
and always have such a fun time coming up with the cool science behind
some plot-phenomena in a story, keeping it as accurate and close to
real life as you wish, but it's also fun to run off the rails and make
up some plausible science to explain things too.
Additional notes about labor offered:
I'm also up for doing a more general alpha/beta read through
a piece. I've beta read a lot for other fandom events, so am good at
working on a deadline. Alpha reading to me means assisting more with
flow, characterization, plot, etc. while beta reading is less
development/making sure things are working and more about catching
spag/plot holes.
Characters/pairings of interest:
Teen Wolf (Sterek), Star Trek (TOS, AOS, SNW; Spirk aka
K/S), The Witcher (Geraskier), The Expanse, BBC Sherlock (Johnlock),
BBC Merlin (Merthur), Harry Potter (Drarry), Daniel Craig's James Bond
movies (00Q), The Evil Dead (Arthur/Ash), Re-Animator (Danbert),
Underworld, Daredevil, Venom (Symbrock), MCU (Stucky).
While I'm good with providing general science/med information to any
fandom that requires it (especially for sci-fi/fantasy angst and whump
works!), for more in-depth assistance and alpha/beta reading above
spag, I feel I'll only be able to do a great job if it's from one of
the above listed fandoms, but I'm open to reading/assisting with other
pairings beyond those specifically listed.
Subjects/theme/tropes of interest:
Slow burn, angst, whump (both with and without comfort),
body horror, gore, ABO (and most of everything that goes along with
it), creature fics, meet cutes, getting together, gratuitous violence,
pwp (both iterations lmao), and just characters that are really in
their heads about it all.
My AO3 works and bookmarks are a good place to see if there's
something in particular I'm into, but hopefully the above list is
complete enough. I also do reach for fluff and domestic fics every now
and then. I will also reach for everything in-between! As long as
there's not an overabundance of one of my squicks in your work, I'll
be honored to read and edit for you! :)
Unwilling to address:
Squicks include BDSM, dom/sub, bathroom kinks, daddy kinks,
sugar daddy/baby relationships, but I am willing to edit works with
them if it's not overly represented in the piece.
Other notes:
I'm a slow reader by nature, so when I'm reading to provide
edits/feedback (even cheereading!) I read even slower, to really allow
things to marinate and for me to provide the best notes on your work
that I can. I feel this is a feature and not a bug, but it does mean
that really tight deadlines and turnaround times are hard for me to
accomplish. But, if I have a free weekend available, I love nothing
better than to sit and read!
As for communication - with longer works, delving into it piecemeal
helps to facilitate more of a dialogue between you and me, but with
pieces less than 20k, usually sending one draft with the whole work is
good. After I've read through a chapter or work once, I do like to go
back and re-read pieces and may provide additional feedback with those
re-reads.
I also find Discord to be the best place to communicate for these
projects - especially if you write in a word processing software,
since it's so easy to send docs via dms - however, I'm open to other
means of communication!
Auctions run from 8:00AM EST, 25 February 2025, to 8:00PM EST, 1 March
2025. Bids before or after this period are invalid and will not be
counted. If you would like to bid on this auction:
Step 1: Check the bidding spreadsheet to find out what the current
high bid is. (Note: It may take up to five minutes for a bid to
appear.)
Step 2: Fill out the creator's bidding form with a bid that is higher than the current high bid. If you want to make it harder for someone to outbid you, bid higher! We will NOT notify you if someone outbids you. FTH will only notify you if you are the high bidder after the auctions end.
