When I'm remixing a fic, the main thing I'm looking for is a thread I can tug on: one that lets me unravel the existing fic such that I can put it back together in a fresh way. I realize this is not an especially actionable description! But mainly the thing I'm looking for is a story with layers, or that offers a couple of different ways in.

Unwilling to address:
I cannot be trusted to deliver a straightforwardly happy ending. It's just not in my skillset. If you want to give me a happy fic to remix that is cool! But please know that my remix will be a lot more ambivalent and ambiguous in its resolution.

Also: although I am happy to consider any fic as the base text for a remix (given the author's permission), I CANNOT PROMISE IN ADVANCE that I will remix the one exact fic you have in mind. It's really difficult to predict what story is going to offer me a way in, and which ones won't. For that reason, I'm going to ask you to offer me 3-5 stories (or more!) that you'd be interested in seeing remixed.

I've used the second portfolio slot to link to the collection of all of my BBC Sherlock remixes; if you know that canon, looking there might be helpful! But as an overview of what a remix by me might look like: I could (and have done, in the past) retell the same story (or a v similar one) from the perspective of a different character, with different knowledge and different priorities and different people they care about; or tell roughly the same story but change a few key details. I once took a Vampire AU -- which drew heavily on the emotional dynamics of S1 Sherlock, but spun its own narrative -- and retold that same narrative, almost beat for beat, but without any vampires or magic and re-translated such that those same dynamics and movements occurred in our own world. I can't promise in advance what I would do; there are lots of different ways to put a twist on the original story, and figuring out what kind of twist it will be is part of the fun for me.

I'm a fan of monsters, aliens, mythical creatures, and furries and feel that is where my strengths are. But I don't have any problem drawing humans. I have no problem with dark themes and subject matter. Also a big fan of dragons.

Unwilling to address:
While I am open to most things and do not judge people for what they enjoy, I am not able to draw: exposed intestines/guts or serious wounds between the ribs and pelvis, human characters under 18 in sexual situations, scat or diaper art, or anything with vomit. For my own sanity I would like to avoid drawing complex machinery or very detailed robots and I am not very skilled at vehicles.

Other notes:
I've been doing professional illustration for over 20 years. I like to discuss things a bit with a commissioner via email or chat but if you have an idea in mind I can do a quick sketch from that. Please provide your favorite art of characters as a reference, sending pics by email is preferred, and if you can note any details that are important to you I appreciate that. I like to have some wiggle room to interpret things so a short prompt works best for me. I will send either some very loose pose or scene thumbnails to be sure I have the idea right or I will send the rough sketch right away if I have a good idea immediately. I'm very fast with sketches. After the sketch is approved by you I will ink it, which can take a week or so depending on how much I have on my plate (If there is a lot going on that might cause delays I will stay in touch). The colors take the longest, especially full shading, and I have no problem sending progress updates while I work on those. I always send you the final piece at full resolution so you can print it out if you would like. If we share a fandom in common or a favorite ship I love talking with my fellow fans and getting a chance to work on something I'm knowledgeable about.

Other notes:
I’m offering up to 10k of ‘regular’ podfic OR up to 5k of podfic with lots of effects and/or music. To be clear, I’m happy to add intro and outro music or do effects for one character in a ‘regular’ podfic, too. The other offer is for projects that feature those things more heavily. If you want to get a sense of what that could sound like, check out the examples in my second portfolio link. But generally speaking:

Does the fic have lots of non-human characters or many different communication channels that you want reflected in the audio? Do you want the audio to really lean into the mood by having music or effects accompany the text? Does the story focus on sounds or does music play a role in the plot and do you want listeners to be able to hear that?

These are just some of my ideas. If you have something else in mind, great! And if you’re not sure if your idea is suitable, don’t hesitate to reach out.

I will only record podfic with the author’s permission. I don’t mind asking but there’s no guarantee an author will say yes, so if you want a certain story it's best you get permission in advance. For a ‘regular’ podfic I’d be happy to look for a story that fits your likes, but if you want a music/effects podfic, please have a specific story in mind already. You can split the total word count between multiple stories. (If some are regular podfics and some are effect/music podfics, the wordcount of the latter counts double).
